Each year, thousands of independently run TEDx events bring people together to share ideas and bridge divides in communities on every continent. Through the Audacious Project, TED has helped catalyze more than $3 billion in funding for projects that seek to make the world more beautiful, sustainable and just. In 2020, TED launched Countdown, an initiative to accelerate solutions to the climate crisis and mobilize a movement for a net-zero future, and in 2023 TED launched TED Democracy to spark a new kind of conversation focused on realistic pathways towards a more vibrant and equitable future. About TEDx

x = independently organized event

In the spirit of discovering and spreading ideas, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

About TEDxPetalingStreet

TEDxPetalingStreet was established in 2013 as the first Chinese TEDx outside the Greater China region and in Malaysia. This platform is an annual conference planned, organized, and hosted by a group of passionate Malaysian volunteers. It aims to provide an inspiring, impactful, and creative platform for sharing great ideas, allowing Malaysian innovators, leaders, reformers, and dreamers to share their passion and ideals for changing the world in their native Chinese languages. At the conference, we hope speakers will share their thoughts and concepts in the most vivid and lively language, narrating the positive energy that has changed them and the principles they adhere to, so that more touching local stories can reach the world. In 2024, after hosting 10... annual conferences, TEDxPetalingStreet has established its team vision of "Moving People to Reimagine Possibilities" and five core values, which are: Keep Growing, Make a Difference, Do the Right Thing, Give with Love, and Deliver Happiness. How we grow

2013

Obtained license from TED to establish Malaysia’s first Chinese-language TEDx event — TEDxPetalingStreet.

2015

Organized our first Salon, which allowed speakers the opportunity to continue sharing beyond their 18 minutes on the stage.

2016

Kickstarted the "Angel Sponsorship" program for the first time, allowing members of the public to sponsor students to attend the annual conference. The number of attendees at our annual conference exceeded 1,000 for the first time.

2017

Published our first book, The Original Intent, which focused on “Stories you didn’t know beyond the 18 minutes,” compiled through in-depth interviews with past speakers by the team. Collaborated with musicians for the first time to create and perform our first event theme song, "Ripples."

2022

This is our first event after the pandemic. 300 early bird tickets were sold out within two days of release. TED’s U.S. headquarters showcased TEDxPetalingStreet’s key visual concept to global curation teams, demonstrating how the team improved the quality of the annual conference through innovative ideas.

2024

Hosted our first ever “Open Mic” competition, which offered youth aged 30 and below a 6-minute time slot as a speaker at our annual conference. Two winners were selected to share their stories on stage.

2024

Created the TEDxPetalingStreet vision and established our five core values. Set a record for the highest number of attendees, with a total of 1,700 participants.
